Know You Here

Here's the text to another song I wrote about the blessing of knowing Christ in His suffering, and being drawn closer to Him in times of loneliness.  It was inspired by and is based on my sister Caroline's thoughts on the glorious, "painful beauty" that God works in us during hard times.

Verse 1
The sacrifice You ask, Lord
Feels like all I have
Father, please uphold me
As I take this path

Help me now accept, Lord
The work that You've begun
Is a painful beauty
To make me like Your Son

Chorus
So may the lonely road ahead
Only waken my heart to Your nearness
And may every tear I shed
Only drive me deeper into You
I count it all as loss, pressing on in a weary land
To know You here

Verse 2
Let the death in me, Lord
Give me life in You
And in my outward fading
Let me be renewed

Chorus
And may the lonely road ahead
Only waken my heart to Your nearness
And may every tear I shed
Only drive me deeper into You
I count it all as loss, pressing on in a weary land
To know You here

Verse 3
As this cosmic groaning
Proves Your Heaven's joys
The pain becomes a hunger for
The final deliverance...

...When beyond this road ahead
I awake, complete in Your nearness
And the earthly veil is shed
To reveal a glory that outweighs all my tears
But until that day, until that day
Until that day
Let me know You here.
