Dimly

Dimly I understand who You are.
My shallow heart can receive
Only a drop of Your glory in the cleft of a rock;
Your shadow is all I perceive.

Dimly my heart comprehends Your will--
The sovereignty that blesses and breaks;
Molding my stiffened clay, refining by fire,
Despite all the plans that I make.

Dimly I show forth Your light;
Too often this world only sees me,
When all their hunger, bound up with mine,
Is to know the truth, and be set free.

Dimly I glimpse salvation's mystery,
Feebly I grasp Your grace;
For now, Your image in a dark mirror,
But one day--bright and clear, face to face.
